Take Pain Medication as Prescribed:
Mild discomfort may be expected, but follow your dentist’s instructions for pain management.
For Root Canal Treatments (RCT):
Avoid Eating on the Treated Tooth
If possible, avoid using the treated tooth for chewing hard food for a few days.
For Extractions
Control Bleeding
Keep pressure on the extraction site with a clean gauze pad for 30-45 minutes after the procedure.
Limit Physical Activity
Avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours to reduce swelling.
Sedation Aftercare
After sedation procedures, your child may experience drowsiness or grogginess. We recommend having a responsible adult accompany them home to ensure their safety.
Recovery Time: Full recovery from sedation takes time. Avoid allowing your child to eat until the sedation has fully worn off to prevent choking.
What to Expect:
If your child received laughing gas or oral sedation, they may be a bit drowsy for a few hours. For more profound sedation methods like general anesthesia, extra care is needed during the recovery period.
Pain Management
Pain Relief Options:
Mild discomfort is common after dental treatments, but it’s manageable with over-the-counter medications
Signs of Complications:
Severe Pain: If pain worsens or doesn’t improve after a few days, please contact us immediately.
Swelling or Fever: A slight swelling and mild fever are common, but if these symptoms persist or worsen, contact our office.
Post-Orthodontic Care
For Braces & Aligners:
Adjusting to New Appliances: Your child may feel discomfort for the first few days as their teeth shift into place.
Maintaining Hygiene: Ensure that your child maintains excellent oral hygiene, especially around braces, to avoid plaque buildup and gum irritation.
Dealing with Bracket or Wire Issues:
If a bracket or wire breaks, contact us immediately for a repair. Avoid using objects like toothpicks to attempt to fix the issue at home.
Follow-Up Appointments
Regular Check-Ups:
Follow-up visits are crucial for ensuring that the healing process is progressing as expected and for adjusting treatments if needed.
Orthodontic Adjustments: For children with braces, regular visits are essential for making adjustments and monitoring tooth movement.
